After Victoria Chang
Someone set the house
on fire, then went to sleep
early last night. Put their feet
to rest and left a body.
Underneath, leaves made
of salt and dried sun.
Fall is just a fancy way
of dying, drinking mud
water in front of a window.
Quite difficult to make
shadows in the nighttime
or hold light in a cup.
Presence versus eating.
Birds of smoke feeding
off embers. The eagle’s
feast a body, how it knows
us all & ready, what’s inside.
