In the heat I am empty

minded & dull as a wave

so I consider nothing

else except the day’s

perplexities. Toenails

shaping waning crescents.

Proverbs.

The mole on the right

corner of your left eye.

The squirrel on the wrong

side of the road before

the collision.

The next morning

I'm mourning for some

one story I lost

in an over-bleached hair

clump under the potted

avocado

or a certain wallflower

I compared your life to

without knowing it dies

in summer & you died in June

but you were never home

to tell me that & even now

you are not home

& so now you are not home

to me anymore
